Description
Cradle Mountain Sunset – After 4 failed attempts at the elusive sunset over Cradle Mountain, the weather was perfect for this particular sunset, looking towards Cradle Mountain across the perfectly peaceful Dove Lake. With hardly a cloud in the sky on this particular afternoon, I was worried that there would be no colour in the sky when it came time to photograph, yet clouds began to form, as they often do at Cradle Mountain, where the weather forecasts can change in a matter of minutes. I love how as the final moments of sunlight hit the peaks of Cradle Mountain cast a beautiful red tinge on the rock, which contrasts so vividly with the colours around it. The clouds also were able to reflect and absorb the amazing colours of this sunset. But it was all over as quickly as it began, the sunset and then the light was gone.
The boulders in the foreground of the image also provide for extra interest against the reflecting waters of the Dove Lake, which on this occasion was almost perfectly still with only a very subtle breeze passing over the lake. This photograph was taken at sunset in early April.
This print would particularly look amazing in the Acrylic Facemount option.
Location of this photograph, Dove Lake, Cradle Mountain National Park, Tasmania, Australia.
